During the 79th Cannes Film Festival, Ecoprod and WWF France will shine a spotlight on the films and production teams that are actively involved in the ecological transition. The Ecoprod Award, which rewards a film for its sustainable production practices, will be celebrated on WWF France’s symbolic sailboat, the Blue Panda.
Ecoprod & WWF France put the spotlight on ecology in Cannes
The two associations join forces to promote eco-friendly initiatives at the Cannes Film Festival and honor the commitment of industry professionals.
WWF France is the leading organization in wildlife conservation and endangered species.
“Regarding the alarming ecological state, cinema has a determining role to play. It can change stories—thus transforming reality. With Ecoprod, we wish to make every single film a vector of ecological commitment, for nature and all living being.” Alexandra Palt, WWF France’s Chairwoman Alexandra Palt, WWF France’s Chairwoman.
Since 2009, the association Ecoprod has been guiding the ecological transition within the film and TV industries through advocacy, trainings, and a range of free tools, such as a carbon calculator and the Ecoprod Label, that has certified over 250 sustainably produced projects.
“Filmmaking embraces all of the ecological transition’s stakes that we also find in our society: decarbonizing mobility, reducing energy use, promoting sustainable food choices , or implementing a circular economy approach. Therefore, cinema acts as a laboratory for the ecological transition, which can inspire and mobilize beyond our field of work. The Cannes Film Festival is a symbolic moment, both for the industry and for the public, and for that reason it is essential to highlight the sector’s commitments.” Pervenche Beurier, Ecoprod’s General Director.
The Ecoprod Award go aboard the Blue Panda
WWF France will be present in Cannes throughout the Festival with its sailboat, the Blue Panda. Designed as a space to discuss and raise awareness about environmental stakes, the Blue Panda will offer a unique place to celebrate the most exemplary initiatives in matters of sustainable production. It will host several events, including the Ecoprod Award’s fifth edition on Friday, 15th May, where professionals of this industry, institutional partners, and committed individuals will gather around a shared ambition: to accelerate the cinema and audiovisual ecological transition.
“Awarding the Ecoprod prize aboard the Blue Panda is a deeply symbolic gesture: it ties the creative world to the one of action. Cinema is a powerful lever in the ecological transition. It mobilizes, raises awareness, and develops the imagination. On the Blue Panda, we will celebrate a cinema that is also sustainable in its use of resources.” Alexandra Palt, WWF France’s Chairwoman
A fifth edition of the Ecoprod Award as ambitious as ever
For five years, the organization has awarded the Ecoprod Award, honoring, among the featured films presented at Cannes, across all competitions and selections, the one which stands out through its ambition and its exemplary green production process.
This award proves that it is possible to balance artistic vision and respect for the environment. It offers the opportunity to show the backstage of eco-friendly film productions: decreasing the carbon footprint, waste management, transport optimization, circular set design, etc.
Last year, the Award went to the film “Jeunes Mères” by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne.
An exceptional jury, to be announced soon, will choose the winners of the 2026 Ecoprod Award on the occasion of the Cannes Film Festival. The jury will consist of renowned personalities from both the film industry and the field of sustainability, reflecting the diversity of the expertise necessary to evaluate a production’s environmental commitment. Its composition will fully portray the dialogue between creation and ecological responsibility, at the heart of the values supported by the Ecoprod Award. “The ecological crisis is no longer fiction; it is our reality. In Cannes, Ecoprod and WWF France remind us of a truth: the world of cinema has to be an actor of change. The Ecoprod Award is not just a prize; it is a call to action. We celebrate the teams daring to rethink their practices, and we invite all of the industry to follow their example.” Baptiste Heynemann, Ecoprod’s Chairman
