Post-production represents 12% of a film production’s carbon footprint, driven by extensive digital equipment use. Reducing this impact requires a holistic approach, considering every stage: from pre-production to distribution, alongside energy consumption and equipment manufacturing. To face this challenge, Ecoprod created a summarized version of its Green production Guide to support professionals in adopting greener practices and encourage sharing it with clients and partners to promote industry-wide environmental sustainability.
From project planning to final delivery and archiving (including post-production workflows, visual effects, and sound editing) there are plenty of ways to reduce the industry’s carbon footprint and save significant energy.
Find out how to put our 24 best practices into action in our summarized version of the Green Post-Production Guide.
24 best practices to reduce the impact of post-production
There are solutions to help reduce the environmental impact of post-production! This guide highlights key actions to organize post-production in a more sustainable way:
- Plan for post-production early on, through collaborative discussions that define timelines and workflows for a green approach. Include sustainability goals directly in contracts.
- Develop an energy management strategy for post-production facilities.
- Minimize the environmental footprint of technical equipment by extending its lifespan and avoiding unnecessary purchases of new gear.
- Reduce the amount of digital data, processed and generated.
- Limit data storage and archiving needs.
